Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada: The 62nd Home Guards Foundation Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on December 6, 2024, at the CAR Headquarters, where N.T.R. District Police Commissioner Sri S.V. Rajasekhara Babu, IPS, graced the event as the Chief Guest.
During the program, the Home Guards extended a warm welcome to the Police Commissioner and presented a ceremonial salute. Under the leadership of Parade Commander Home Guard 116 N. Sai Kumar, a synchronized and impressive parade was conducted, showcasing the discipline and commitment of the Home Guards.
Addressing the gathering, the Police Commissioner conveyed his heartfelt greetings to all the Home Guards on this special occasion. He reflected on the origins of the Home Guards, which were first established in Bombay in 1946 to promote peace and security in society, and in Andhra Pradesh on December 6, 1963. Highlighting their pivotal role, he stated that 998 Home Guards in Vijayawada city serve in various capacities, including maintaining peace, traffic regulation, crime prevention, and assisting in CID, Task Force, internal security, and technical roles such as computer operations and vehicle driving.
The Commissioner praised the Home Guards for their exceptional service during emergencies such as fire incidents, floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and in maintaining religious harmony. He commended their contributions to key events like Dasara Navaratri, Bhavani Deeksha, and government programs, as well as their efficient performance in VVIP/VIP security duties and state elections in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh this year.
Acknowledging their dedication, honesty, and discipline, the Commissioner urged the Home Guards to continue their work with commitment, earn public respect, and set an example for others. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining good health, fostering good habits, and balancing family responsibilities.
As a token of appreciation, retiring Home Guards set to conclude their service in 2025 were honored with shawls. Additionally, Commandant T. Ananda Babu, DSP K.V.S.N. Parameswara Rao, and Home Guards RI Sri Sudhakar Reddy, along with the Chief Guest, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu, IPS, were felicitated with mementos by the Home Guards.
The event witnessed the participation of several dignitaries, including Deputy Police Commissioners Gautami Shali, IPS, A.B.T.S. Udayarani, IPS, and other senior officials, alongside approximately 300 Home Guards personnel, making it a memorable celebration.
