Hyderabad City, Telangana: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar, IPS, cautioned citizens about how cybercriminals exploit fear, urgency, and human weaknesses to commit fraud, while addressing the “Jagrut Hyderabad – Surakshit Hyderabad” cyber awareness programme held at Madhura Nagar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner emphasized that public awareness is the strongest weapon against cybercrime and urged citizens to become “Cyber Simbas”, acting as the first line of defence against digital fraud. He highlighted that prompt reporting of cyber fraud to helpline 1930 during the Golden Hour is crucial for freezing fraudulent accounts and recovering money.
The Commissioner noted a rise in digital arrest scams and fake investment frauds, particularly targeting senior citizens and first-time investors. He advised the public to immediately disconnect such suspicious calls and report them to 100 or 1930. With major festivals such as Christmas, New Year, and Sankranti approaching, citizens were cautioned to remain alert against fake offers, unknown links, OTP/password sharing, and online strangers.
As part of the ‘Cyber Simba’ initiative, Hyderabad Police are conducting door-to-door cyber awareness campaigns every Tuesday and Saturday, with the goal of training at least one cyber-aware individual in every household. Citizens were encouraged to volunteer and actively spread cyber safety awareness in their communities.
Reiterating the importance of swift action, the Commissioner stated that reporting cyber fraud within the Golden Hour significantly increases the chances of recovery. Victims were advised to immediately call 1930 or report incidents through cybercrime.gov.in.
The programme reflected the Hyderabad Police’s strong commitment to citizen-centric policing, proactive awareness, and collective responsibility in building a safe and cyber-resilient Hyderabad.
