Hyderabad City, Telangana: In a significant move towards empowering women in law enforcement, the Hyderabad City Police has launched its first-ever Swift Women Action Team (SWAT), consisting of 35 specially trained women officers. The elite team has undergone two months of rigorous training in Krav Maga and unarmed combat, preparing them to effectively manage sensitive situations and ensure public safety.
The primary objective of the SWAT team is to handle women protesters during dharnas, rallies, and public gatherings, as well as to be deployed during major city events and festivals. Their induction marks a strategic step in improving gender-sensitive policing and reinforcing women’s presence in high-pressure law enforcement roles.
The SWAT team was officially inducted into service on June 3, 2025, by Sri C.V. Anand, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad. Their first operational deployment in new uniforms is scheduled to take place at the Telangana Secretariat on July 4, 2025, signaling a new era of responsive and inclusive policing in the city.
