Hyderabad: A joint team of Shamshabad Zone Special Operation Team (SOT) at Big Golconda Chowrasta near Shamshabad, local police stopped and inspected a local lorry.
Police found 64 bags of illicit marijuana in the lorry, which contained 12.5 kg of dry marijuana hidden in cotton seed waste, police said.
The Cyberabad Metropolitan Police seized 800 kg of cannabis worth about Rs.2 crore in Hyderabad on Sunday morning. Police said the illicit cannabis was being transported in a lorry from Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh. Police also arrested driver Khushi Mohammad and cleaner Sonu Singh during the operation.
Police said they had received specific information about the cannabis shipment. A lorry carrying the cannabis was intercepted by a joint team of the Shamshabad Zone Special Operation Team (SOT) and local police at a large Golconda crossroads near Shamshabad. Police carried out blow-up operations for the cannabis supplier, lorry owner and others.
Police said they had received information that Somu alias Bhagwan, a resident of Malkangiri in Odisha, had bought cannabis at Rs.3,000 per kg from local farmers in Visakhapatnam, supplied it to Sikinder in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh and was selling the illicit substance to consumers at exorbitant prices.
