Hyderabad: The Telangana police will take another step in the New Year with the installation of CCTV cameras. The focus is on setting up district-wise command and control centers for the analysis of the footage. Most police stations already have cameras connected. They are connected to the DSP offices from there to the SP offices. This allows superiors to view the events that take place in a unit not only at the base but also at the SP office. Command and Control Centers are already functioning at Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda Commissionerates. Nearly 6 lakh cameras have been set up under these three commissionerates. Apart from the respective commissionerates, they have also been linked to a large command and control center in Cyberabad. The twin police towers under construction in Banjara Hills will be connected to a massive command and control center being set up. The process of connecting CCTV cameras to command and control centers in Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam, Ramagundam, and Siddipet commissionerates is also underway. Those in the cities under the respective commissionerates are already connected while those in the rural areas are also being connected.
8,51,644 CCTV cameras will be installed across the state by the end of 2021. The government is setting up main roads as well as main squares with the help of private companies and colony associations as part of community policing. Based on these, 22,781 cases have been registered so far, according to police figures. In the near future, 10 lakh cameras will be set up across the state and connected to the command and control center in the twin police towers. If it becomes fully available, officials say, the center will be able to analyze footage recorded on any CCTV camera in the state.
