Hyderabad, Telangana, May 2025: In a significant step towards fostering a respectful and safe society for women, SHE Teams, under the Women Safety Wing, Hyderabad Police, organized a counseling session for 304 individuals, including 289 individuals apprehended for harassment-related incidents reported between January and April 2025. The initiative, conducted in collaboration with Manojagruthi NGO, is a model effort combining law enforcement with behavioral reformation.
Of the 289 participants involved in the offenses, 271 were adults and 18 minors, accompanied by 15 parents and guardians. The counseling was led by a team of expert psychiatrists including Dr. Geetha Challa, Kairi Thrinath Goud, Swathina Shasi, S. Srilatha, Syed Abeeda Begum, and others. The session aimed to instill empathy, legal awareness, and respectful public behavior through professional intervention and guidance.
Smt. Dr. Lavanya NJP, DCP, Women Safety Wing, addressed the participants, emphasizing the negative impact of substance abuse and the importance of choosing positive influences in peer groups. She explained how alcohol, drugs, and smoking can impair emotional regulation and decision-making, often leading to misconduct. Dr. Lavanya also shared insights into delayed gratification, stressing the long-term value of patience and self-control in building meaningful lives.
Several participants voluntarily shared their experiences and remorse, admitting the emotional toll their actions had taken on themselves and their families. They expressed gratitude to SHE Teams for giving them a chance to reflect and reform through such non-punitive interventions. Many acknowledged that the session helped them understand the consequences of their actions and inspired them to make better choices.
This initiative is a reflection of SHE Teams’ progressive approach to policing, focusing not only on enforcement but also on education, awareness, and rehabilitation. By facilitating such sessions, the Women Safety Wing continues its commitment to nurturing a safer and more respectful social environment for women.
