Assam: Tauseef Ali Farooqui who is a final year student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Guwahati), has allegedly joined the ISIS terrorist group. He disappeared from the Institute followed with an open letter on his LinkedIn profile named ‘An Open Letter.’
In the letter Farooqui’s outlines radical beliefs and his choice to renounce Indian institutions and society, which he considers as un-Islamic. He discloses his ‘Hijrat’ to an ISIS-controlled region and his intentions to fight for the group. The letter also reveals his planned travel route which begins from Pan Bazaar in Guwahati, Assam.
Now Tauseef Ali Farooqui has reportedly been detained by the Assam Police from Hajo in Kamrup district of Assam after a search operation was initiated by the Special Task Force (STF). The student is said to be from New Delhi.
The police have found many objectionable items from his dorm room and are currently undergoing investigation as informed by the Additional Superintendent of Police of the Special Task Force (STF), Mr Kalyan Kumar Bhuyan.
It is clear that the incident at IIT Guwahati is particularly concerning due to the recent activities in the region as just a few days ago, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police managed to uproot a significant terrorist plot which led to the apprehension of two high-ranking leaders associated with ISIS in India.
