North & Middle Andaman: In a coordinated effort to combat the illegal liquor trade, Billiground Police Station conducted a successful raid in the jungle on October 5, 2024. Led by Sub-Inspector Shiju Kumar, SHO of Billiground Police Station, a dedicated team comprising Head Constable Amrita Bawali and Police Constables Ashok Das, Anurud Das, Biplab Bachar, and Abhijeet Mondal targeted the Korang Nallah jungle, a location under surveillance for suspected illicit activities.
During the search, the team uncovered and seized a substantial amount of equipment used for illegal liquor production. The confiscated items included two distillation units (bhattis), nine iron drums containing 2,000 liters of lehan (fermented raw alcohol), two half drums, and various other distillation materials. The seized lehan and bhatti equipment were destroyed on-site to prevent their future use in illegal operations.
This swift and decisive action highlights the commitment of the North & Middle Andaman District Police to curbing the production and distribution of illicit liquor in the region. The raid was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Rahul L. Nair, IPS, SDPO Rangat, with overall guidance and direction from Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman District.
