North and Middle Andaman: The A&N police team from Kalighat Police Station apprehended two individuals and confiscated a significant amount of illicit liquor. Additionally, they seized a substantial quantity of Lahan hidden in the dense forest of Haren Nallah, within the jurisdiction of Kalighat Police Station.
On February 6, 2024, acting on information regarding illicit liquor production, a team led by SI Silpi Singha, SHO of Kalighat Police Station, accompanied by PCs Sushil Sarkar, Subrata Biswas, and Eileen, embarked on a challenging 60 km journey across sea, land, and difficult terrain to reach the Haren Nallah forest. Conducting a raid in the dense jungle, the team successfully confiscated 520 liters of Lahan stored in iron and plastic drums, along with various utensils and equipment used in the illicit liquor production, cleverly concealed within the jungle. All seized items were promptly destroyed.
While returning to the Police Station after the raid, the team encountered two individuals, Ashok Halder, son of Sh. Jadu Halder, aged 39, residing in Paschimsagar, and Rajib Das, son of Sh. Anil Das, aged 31, residing in R.K. Gram, carrying 10 liters of illicit liquor. After thorough interrogation, the team confiscated the liquor and booked both individuals under an excise case, dealing a significant blow to the illegal liquor manufacturing network.
The entire operation was conducted under the vigilant supervision of Dr. Chandra Prakash Meena, DANIPS, SDPO Diglipur, and under the overall direction and supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police, North & Middle Andaman.
