RAIPUR: Geetha Gavde, wife of martyred ‘Gopniya Sainik’ Sukram Gavde a Police informer has been appointed as a Police constable under special provision said Mr P Sundarraj, Inspector General of Police (in-charge) Bastar Range. The police informer was killed in a gun-battle with Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on March 18. The IGP said, “The order to appoint Geetha Gavde wife of martyred ‘Gopniya Sainik’ Sukram Gavde, has been issued”. District Superintendent of Police appoint ‘Gopniya Sainiks’ (secret troopers) at local level for anti-Naxal operations, mainly for the purpose of gathering intelligence. In a gun battle with Naxals in Dantewada, Gavde and Police constable Nirmal Netam were killed and five Naxals were also killed in the skirmish. “Geetha, Gavde’s wife was eager to join the Police force. The IGP Mr P Sundarraj said, as a mark of respect to the sacrifice made by her husband, I decided to appoint her as constable in Dantewada district police unit”. “As Gavde was not a constable, his wife was not entitled to compassionate appointment as a constable but she was appointed under special provision,” he added. The Inspector General of Police has special powers to appoint someone as constable based on the contribution made by an individual in anti-Naxal operations quoting the provision, Police said.]]>
