Kohima: The 39th edition of the Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2021 Opening Ceremony was held today at 2 pm at NAPTC Stadium. The Opening Ceremony was graced by Mr. Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister, Nagaland as Special Guest, and Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, President of, Indian Olympic Association, and President International Hockey Federation Guest of Honour. The other dignitaries who attended the Opening Ceremony were Mr. Zaleo Rio, Mr. A.S. Bhatia, Mr. Abu Metha, Vice President, Athletic Federation of India, and Secy. General, Nagaland Olympic Association.
The Opening Ceremony was marked by the unveiling of Nagaland Police Sports Batallion Foundation Plaque by the Chief Minister, Nagaland in the presence of Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, President, Indian Olympic Association and President International Hockey Federation, and other high dignitaries.
Mr. T. John Longkumer, IPS, Director General of Police, Nagaland delivered the welcoming address while thanking the Chief Minister and the Guest of Honour for gracing the Opening Ceremony.
Mr. Abu Metha, Vice President, Athletic Federation of India and Secy. General, Nagaland Olympic Association greeted all the participants of NPM 2021 and thanked Special Guest and Guest of Honour for their esteemed presence.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, President of, Indian Olympic Association and President International Hockey Federation was also given the time to address the participants. He encouraged the participants to aim for higher goals and also expressed his happiness on the noble initiative of Chief Minister Nagaland in launching the most needed Nagaland Police Sports Battalion. He was of the opinion that every state should take this example and initiate to set up their own state police sports battalion. He also pledged to extend every possible support in developing a sports fraternity in the state of Nagaland.
During the Opening Ceremony, Mr. Renchamo P. Kikon, IPS, Addl. Director-General of Police (ADM) Nagaland took the time to acknowledge the 14 Covid Martyrs of Nagaland Police who laid down their lives in the fight against Covid. The DGP Commemoration Disk was handed over to 35 Officers and other ranks of Nagaland Police who showed exemplary service in setting up the Ganeshnagar Quarantine Centre in record time.
Mr. Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister, Nagaland welcomed the guest of honor and other esteemed dignitaries and expressed his happiness on launching of the Nagaland Police Sports Battalion Foundation Plaque. Chief Minister, Nagaland encouraged all the participating units to show their utmost performance in all the events while upholding the spirit of true sportsmanship spirit. He concluded his speech by declaring the XXXIX Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2021 ‘OPEN’.
In another function, Family Welfare Competition was conducted in the following two categories, Bamboo craftsmanship and Recycled items wherein Bamboo Craftsmanship 11 NAP (IR) was declared winner, DEF Peren was Runner Up and 3rd place was begged by 6 NAP Bn and in another category i.e Recycled Item, DEF Kohima bagged the first prize, 7th NAP Bn bagged the second prize and the third prize bagged by NPTS respectively. Later, the Family Welfare Stall was inaugurated by the Special Guest Mrs. Kaisa Rio, Lady Wife of Mr. Neiphu Rio, Chief Minister, Nagaland.
