Chhattisgarh, Raigarh: Kotwali police have arrested Sumit Mali alias Paji for attacking a youth with a sharp weapon during a dispute in Indiranagar. The incident, which occurred on April 6 at Indiranagar Chowk, was reported by victim Amit Singh Rajput (27) on June 7.
According to the complaint, the altercation began during a procession when the victim’s relative, Jagannath Singh Rajput, was discussing playing a DJ. Sumit Mali allegedly abused him using obscene language and, upon being confronted, threatened to kill him. He then attacked Jagannath with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries to his left wrist. Amit Singh Rajput was also injured while intervening.
Based on the report, Kotwali police registered case number 144/2025 under sections 296, 351(2), and 118(1)(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a search for the accused, who had gone absconding. Acting on a tip-off, police raided Mali’s residence on April 8 and took him into custody.
During interrogation, the accused confessed, and the weapon used in the assault—a sword—was recovered based on his statement. Subsequently, sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act were added to the case. He was produced in court and has been sent on remand.
Station in-charge Inspector Sukhnandan Patel, along with Head Constable Basanti Khunte and their team, played a key role in the investigation and arrest.
