Kottayam: Ahead of Onam celebrations, a wide-scale search was conducted by the district Police Chief Mr. K Karthik IPS using specially trained dog squads at railway stations, bus stands, public grounds, markets and other public places in the district to prevent the use and sale of intoxicants. Apart from this, a special squad of police has been appointed in each station area in addition to strict vehicle checks to prevent the arrival of intoxicants from other districts. Those who have been arrested in drug cases before and those who have other criminal background are under strict surveillance by the police.
