Tinsukia: In a significant development concerning the IPL betting case in Tinsukia District, Assam, law enforcement authorities uncovered a substantial sum of cash totaling over Rs. 62 lakh in the possession of Nikhil Agarwal, a resident of Tinsukia town. This revelation came as part of an ongoing investigation into illicit gambling activities surrounding the Indian Premier League.
Prior to Agarwal’s apprehension, authorities had already made headway in the case with the arrest of Bikash Beria, who was identified as the mastermind behind the operation. Beria was taken into custody at his residence in Manav Kalyan, Tinsukia, where Rs. 5 lakh in cash was seized. The operation was meticulously conducted by a team of diligent officers from the Tinsukia police force, with the active involvement of senior police officials from the Tinsukia police station.
Beria’s detention at the Tinsukia Sadar police station provided crucial leads for further investigation. During interrogation, Beria divulged information implicating Agarwal’s involvement in the illicit betting racket, prompting authorities to focus their attention on him. As a result, a significant amount of cash, amounting to Rs. 62,80,000, was confiscated by law enforcement.
The operation was executed under the leadership of Tinsukia’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pulakesh Rabha, and the Officer-in-Charge of Tinsukia Sadar Police Station, Paragjyoti Buragohain. Their strategic coordination ensured the success of the operation and underscored the commitment of law enforcement to combatting organized crime.
In light of these developments, authorities anticipate further crackdowns on individuals involved in IPL-related gambling activities in the region. Efforts are ongoing to explore any additional linkages and gather pertinent evidence as the investigation progresses, reflecting the resolve of law enforcement agencies to uphold the integrity of the legal system and protect the public from illicit activities.
