Chandigarh: On Wednesday, the Punjab government carried out a major reshuffle of police officials in Jalandhar district, shifting a total of nine police personnal, including six officials in connection with the ongoing police action against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his aides. The reshuffle involved the transfer of three police personnal posted in other districts.
According to an official order, the Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar (Rural), Punjab Police Services (PPS) officer Mr. Swarandeep Singh has been transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (investigation) in Amritsar. Mr. Mukhwinder Singh, who was previously the DCP (Investigation) in Amritsar, will now serve as the SSP Jalandhar (Rural).
Additionally, PPS officer Manjit Kaur, who was earlier the Superintendent of Police (headquarters) Jalandhar Rural, has been posted as Superintendent (SP) in Kapurthala. Meanwhile, PPS officer Sarabjit Singh, who was earlier the SP (Investigation) in Jalandhar Rural, has been given the charge of SP (Investigation) in Hoshiarpur. Manpreet Singh will now serve as the SP (Investigation) Jalandhar Rural.
Furthermore, IPS officer Vatsala Gupta, who was earlier the deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) in Jalandhar, has been posted as DCP (headquarters) in Amritsar. In addition, additional DCP in Jalandhar, Jagjit Singh, has been given the charge of SP (operations) in Gurdaspur.
The reshuffle also involved the transfer of Ravcharan Singh Brar, Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order, Ludhiana), who has been posted as Joint Commissioner of Police in Jalandhar, and Jaskiranjit Singh, who has been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (rural) in Ludhiana.
The Punjab Police had launched a crackdown against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his supporters, who belong to the pro-Khalistan ‘Waris Punjab De’ outfit, on March 18. However, Singh managed to evade the police operation in Jalandhar district by changing vehicles and disguising his appearance. The police action was initiated after Singh and his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station near Amritsar in order to secure the release of an arrested individual.
