Bengaluru: State Director General of Police (DG and IGP) Praveen Sood will be the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A three-member appointment committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha (Congress) Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary finalized his name on Saturday.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has reportedly approved Sood’s appointment based on the committee’s recommendation. Still waiting for order. The tenure of the CBI Director is fixed for two years.
Praveen Sood refused to comment in this regard. Along with Praveen Sood , the names of Sudhir Saxena (DGP Madhya Pradesh) and Taj Hassan (Chief of Fire Services, Civil Defense and Home Guard, New Delhi) are on the list of next CBI director.
Sood has been appointed to replace incumbent CBI director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, whose two-year tenure will end on May 25. Praveen Sood , a 1985-batch IPS
officer, is the third IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre to be appointed as CBI director. Praveen Sood who belongs to Himachal Pradesh, was appointed as the DG and IGP of Karnataka on February 1, 2020.
An alumnus of IIT Delhi, he has adopted technology in old police training centers to tackle new age crime, law and order challenges and provide easy police services to the common man. His contribution in using technology to ease Bengaluru’s notorious traffic congestion is well known.
