Thrissur Rural, Kerala: In a commendable step toward protecting the next generation from the growing menace of drug abuse, the Thrissur Rural Police—under the leadership of District Police Chief B. Krishnakumar, IPS—will launch a year-long anti-drug awareness campaign titled “Karuthalay Kavalay” (With Care, As Guardians) for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The initiative, part of Kerala Police’s state-wide student outreach efforts, will be inaugurated on June 2, coinciding with the reopening of schools. As part of the launch, two lakh name slips and sweets, all bearing strong anti-drug messages, will be distributed to students across more than 500 schools in the district.
The district-level inauguration of the campaign will take place at PK Chathan Master Memorial UP School, Madayikonam, Irinjalakuda, where Dr. R. Bindu, Kerala’s Minister for Higher Education and Social Justice, will officially kick off the program by distributing the awareness materials to students.
“Students are the hope and strength of tomorrow’s India,” said officials. “While academics are important, their physical and mental well-being must also be safeguarded. Even a single instance of drug use can have devastating, lifelong consequences.”
The Karuthalay Kavalay campaign aims to create a protective shield around educational institutions by raising awareness, fostering vigilance, and encouraging early intervention against drug abuse.
As part of the effort to involve the public, the Thrissur Rural Police encourages citizens to report any suspected drug use or trafficking. Reports can be sent 24/7 via WhatsApp through the YODHAV helpline at 9995966666, using voice messages, text, photos, or videos. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
With a blend of care, education, and law enforcement, the Kerala Police continues to stand guard over the state’s children—nurturing a healthier, drug-free future.
