Siliguri: To address the long terms needs of dedicated traffic management at Kawakhali, especially in view of recent incidents, as per the order of CP Siliguri, Mr. Gaurav Sharma IPS, a dedicated Kawakhali Traffic Outpost has been started today under SI Mr. Rajiv Guha, OC Kawakhali Traffic Outpost with a substantial strength of Police personnel. The Traffic Outpost was inaugurated today by Mrs. Purnima Sherpa WBPS, ADCP Traffic, SMP in the presence of other senior officers.
The Traffic Outpost shall have a dedicated zone from Chauterhat Medical More to Noukaghat Bridge. Its main purpose is to ensure smooth flow of traffic and cut down on accidents of any nature. Speed guns, Traffic Rakshaks and other paraphernalia have been provided to facilitate its work.
Also, liaison is being made with Asian Highway Authorities for early lighting of the road, setting up of Raised Pavement Markers for lane illumination during the night, cautioning sign boards for ‘Going Slow’, ‘No overtaking’ etc. Rumble strips would be provided to alert the drivers at dark spots. Also, blinkers shall be given to alert the drivers, especially in the night, while approaching the accident prone zones. Additionally, traffic police has urgently set up halogens to illuminate dark spots on immediate basis. More interventions are being planned for safety of people.
The Traffic Police Outpost will be manned by 1-SI, 6-ASI, 6-Constables, 12-Civic Volunteers, and 3-Lady Civic Volunteers.
