Tamil Nadu: On 28.03.2019, forenoon, Thiru.Vijay Kumar, IPS, Special Director General of Police, Law and Order, Chennai conducted a special meeting at the Conference Hall, Madurai City Police Office with police officers of South Zone to review Lok Sabha election and by-poll for 7 assembly constituencies’ preparedness in South Zone and celebration of Chitrai Festival in Madurai City.
The Special Director General of Police instructed the officers of South Zone to ensure enforcement of model code of conduct, conduct of the elections in a free and fair manner and maintenance of law and order during pre and post poll period. During the meeting, the Special DGP instructed the officers to ensure frequent patrolling and presence of police personnel at all problematic, vulnerable and sensitive areas to ensure peaceful poll process and to instill confidence to the public. He also emphasized the police officers to make available effective communication plan to ensure free flow of information from the ground level.
The Special Director General of Police has further instructed the officers to post sufficient pickets at all important junctions, sensitive areas and problematic places, besides ensuring frequent patrol by delta vehicles and Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) in these areas. He also instructed the officers to take action to execute the pending NBWs in an effective manner. The Special DGP has also insisted the officers to identify the trouble mongers and to take appropriate action to ensure peaceful poll process.
He informed that election control rooms are functioning in all the districts effectively and monitor all poll related issues round the clock. He also informed that special check posts are erected at all important areas in the zone to monitor the movement of vehicles and entry of illegal materials etc.
The Special DGP has also reviewed the preparedness to conduct of important festivals of Chitrai Festival between 17th April 2019 and 19th April 2019 in Madurai City peacefully. As Lakhs of devotees from other districts and general public would visit Madurai City to witness the festivals, around 3000 police personnel would be pressed into bandobust duties to ensure peaceful celebrations of Chitrai Festival in Madurai City. The Special Director General of Police has stated that around 400 CCTV cameras would be installed in and around the temple as well as on the route of journey of Lord Kazhallagar to ensure effective surveillance on the surging crowd. Further, he also instructed the officers to make necessary arrangements to allot separate places for parking the vehicles of devotees visiting Madurai City. He further instructed the officers to ensure necessary traffic arrangements and diversions to ensure the general public are not facing any hardship to witness the festivals and in carrying out their day to day routine. He also instructed the officers to post sufficient police personnel to look after the crime prevention exclusively and to trace the missing children in the crowd. He instructed to form a separate crime team for this purpose. Further, he also instructed to erect strong wooden barricades in 33 polling locations, where the Chitrai Festival will be celebrated, to ensure free passage of voters to the polling booths and to segregate the voters and devotees.
