Nagapattinam: In order to effectively control liquor smuggling and the sale of counterfeit alcohol in Nagapattinam district, a comprehensive strategy has been implemented. As part of this strategy, a total of 10 check posts have been set up throughout the district, and they are being closely monitored on a continuous basis.
On June 10, 2023, the police received a valuable tip-off regarding a potential smuggling operation. Acting swiftly on the information, a vehicle search was conducted, leading to the apprehension of two individuals who were found to be actively involved in the criminal act of smuggling liquor. Both suspects were promptly arrested, and their involvement in the illicit activities was duly established.
During the search and subsequent investigation, law enforcement officials seized a substantial quantity of 500 bottles of liquor from the suspects. Additionally, a four-wheeler that was being used for the purpose of smuggling was also seized and impounded by the authorities.
Mr. Harsh Singh IPS, the esteemed Superintendent of Police for Nagapattinam District, issued a stern warning in light of this successful operation. He emphasized that those who engage in such criminal activities would face severe consequences under the Prevention of Gangster Act. This law empowers law enforcement agencies to take strict action against individuals involved in gang-related crimes, including liquor smuggling.
The seizure of the liquor bottles and the apprehension of the two smugglers serve as a strong message to others involved in similar illegal activities. The Nagapattinam police remain committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the district’s residents by actively combating liquor smuggling and the sale of counterfeit alcohol.
