Madurai, Tamil Nadu, July 13: In view of the upcoming Kumbabhishekam ceremony scheduled for July 14, the Food Safety Department of Madurai District has intensified surveillance and surprise inspections to ensure public health and hygiene in and around the Thiruparankundram temple area.
On the instructions of District Food Safety Officer Dr. Selvaraj, food safety inspectors Shri Rajendran and Shri Mohan conducted a comprehensive inspection drive across tea stalls, vada shops, and eateries located on Periyarath Road, Keelarath Road, and Mela Rathveethi Sannathi Street.
During the inspection, officials:
- Warned vendors against using adulterated ingredients, particularly tea powders.
- Instructed that vadas must not be served on newspapers or unhygienic paper and instead must be presented on clean silver leaf plates.
- Emphasized that all food establishments must maintain proper hygiene, or face penalties and closure under relevant food safety laws.
The department is taking proactive steps to prevent food adulteration during the festive season and to safeguard the health of thousands of devotees and visitors expected during the religious event.
Officials reaffirmed that such checks will continue and that strict action will be taken against violators. The public is also encouraged to report any unhygienic food practices or suspicious food items to the District Food Safety Office.
This initiative reflects the department’s strong commitment to public health, consumer safety, and maintaining sanctity during important religious gatherings.
