MADURAI, Tamil Nadu – In a significant legal development, the Madurai Principal Excise Commissionerate and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Special Court has delivered its judgment in a high-profile case.
The case, registered under Othakadai Police Station’s Crime Record Number 605/2021, pertained to violations of the NDPS Act. Specifically, the accused individuals, A1 and A2, were charged under Section 8(c) read with Section 20 (b) (11) as well as Sections 25 and 29(1) of the NDPS Act.
The commercial aspect of the case revolved around a staggering 170 kilograms of ganja.
A1, identified as Kalai, aged 65, and A2, known as Perumayee, aged 60, both residents of Madurai, were convicted in this case.
The judgment handed down by the court is substantial. Each of the accused, A1 and A2, has been sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. In addition to the prison term, they have each been fined Rs. 1,00,000.
This verdict sends a clear message about the seriousness with which the Madurai district and its law enforcement agencies view violations related to narcotics and psychotropic substances.
