Yadgir: In Karnataka’s Yadgir district, an 18-year-old young man, identified as Waheed, has come forward with a disturbing account of alleged abduction and assault perpetrated by a group of nine individuals. Among them are reported to be family members of his Hindu classmate, with whom he claims to have shared a friendship.
Mr. Waheed recounts studying alongside the Hindu woman at a private college, where their interactions apparently drew the ire of her relatives. According to his statement to the authorities, their regular communication led to escalating tensions, eventually culminating in a harrowing ordeal on Tuesday.
The sequence of events as described by Waheed suggests that he was forcefully taken from the vicinity of the college and subjected to a violent assault. His ordeal allegedly involved physical harm at the hands of the assailants, leaving him traumatized and seeking recourse through legal channels.
Prompted by Waheed’s complaint, law enforcement officials have initiated legal proceedings against the accused individuals. The list includes Mallu, Tayappa, Shivunayk, Roopesh, Ambaresh, Hharshagouda, Pavan Kumar, Jambu Solanki, and Bapu Solanki, all of whom are reported residents of Yadgir. Notably, Waheed asserts that among the perpetrators are three relatives of the woman with whom he maintained his friendship.
Inspector Manje Gauda, providing details of the case, disclosed that the complaint was lodged on March 19. Subsequently, a comprehensive investigation was launched, resulting in the registration of a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The charges include but are not limited to rioting, attempted murder, kidnapping, and criminal intimidation.
The distressing incident underscores the importance of safeguarding individuals’ rights to personal associations and underscores the necessity for robust enforcement of laws aimed at preventing such egregious acts of violence and coercion.
