Delhi: A 32-year-old man, previously released on bail for a murder case, was fatally shot in northeast Delhi’s New Usmanpur on Tuesday night, according to police officials familiar with the incident. Identified as Sanjay Singh, the deceased operated a restaurant in GTB Nagar, near Hudson Lane. As Singh was returning home on his motorcycle after leaving his restaurant on Tuesday night, unknown assailants on motorcycles followed him, intercepting him on a service road in New Usmanpur. They proceeded to shoot him multiple times before fleeing the scene, leaving Singh with fatal injuries. Local residents and passersby, including an acquaintance of Singh, witnessed the incident and promptly alerted his family. Singh’s family contacted the police control room at 12:33 am. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy N Tirkey revealed that Singh had been involved in a murder case in 2010, where he and three associates had been implicated in the killing of a man named Ravinder. Nitin, Singh’s younger brother, received news from a friend about Singh’s body being found near the service road in New Usmanpur. Upon arriving at the scene, Nitin discovered Singh in critical condition, with injuries to his head, shoulder, elbow, and abdomen. Despite being rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, Singh was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police officers recovered seven empty shells, four lead pieces, and a live round from the crime scene. Based on Nitin’s complaint, a case has been registered against unidentified suspects under sections of murder and the Arms Act. Nitin, who owns a dairy shop in New Usmanpur, filed the complaint. While investigators have gathered CCTV footage from the area and interviewed residents, they have yet to identify the perpetrators. An officer involved in the case suggested that Singh’s murder may be connected to his previous involvement in the 2010 murder case or a recent altercation with neighbors over minor disputes.
