Mangalore: Mangalore police have arrested three people who were cheating by using Aadhaar based payment service (AEPS).
Arrested Deepak Kumar Hembram, Vivek Kumar Biswas, Madan Kumar hail from Bihar.
Mangalore Commissioner of Police Anupam Agarwal said that 10 cases of AEPS were reported in the jurisdiction of CEN Police Station in the last 6 months.
Many victims who had registered their property with the Sub-Registrar of Mangalore and submitted their biometric information elsewhere complained that money was deducted from their bank accounts through the Aadhaar enabled payment system. So we formed a special team and arrested three people,” Agarwal said.
The Commissioner of Police further informed that the accused were illegally collecting the biometric details of the victims through Kaveri 2.0 app which was used before registration. Police officials said that they would then scan their fingerprints and transfer money from the victim’s accounts using Aadhaar numbers.
Police have blocked transactions of up to Rs 3.60 lakhs related to 10 bank accounts of the arrested accused. Officials said that the mobile phones of the accused are being subjected to technical verification.
