Mangaluru: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) personnel arrested the Puttur Tahsildar on probation, Pradeep Kumar on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe on Wednesday. When the catering contractor requested the payment, the Tahsildar had demanded a bribe of Rs.1.25 Lakhs to do the needful. The catering contractor filed a complaint with the ACB about the demand for bribe made by the Tahsildar. The contractor was to be paid Rs.9.37 lakh by the government [Election Commission] as food bill as he supplied food during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Ms. Uma Prashanth, Superintendent of Police, ACB, Mangaluru, said the accused was caught in action while receiving the bribe. Further investigation is on, she said. The incident was unfortunate and the accused involved would be suspended by Friday. The Tahsildar was on probation, Deputy Commissioner Mr. S. Sasikanth Senthil said.]]>
