In the ongoing War on Drugs, there has been a recent seizure of narcotics by the Champhai Police in the state of Mizoram, India. The police were on duty at the Chalbawia Junction Khankawn Police Checkgate when they apprehended a Myanmar national, Lalthangvunga, who is 46 years old and the son of Lalhama from Chehkan.
Upon conducting a search of Lalthangvunga’s person, the police discovered a total of 88 grams of heroin. The heroin was found in 7 soap cases and is estimated to be worth Rs. 44 lakhs in the international market. The police immediately took action and registered a case under section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (ND&PS) along with section 14 A(b) of the Foreigners Act at the Champhai Police Station for further investigation.
The ND&PS Act is a law that was enacted by the Indian government to control and regulate the production, distribution, and consumption of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Under this act, the possession, sale, purchase, and transport of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance is illegal and punishable by law.
The Foreigners Act, on the other hand, deals with the entry, stay, and exit of foreigners into India. The act regulates the movement of foreigners into and out of India and sets guidelines for their stay within the country.
The seizure of narcotics and the subsequent arrest of Lalthangvunga is a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and abuse. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, and more information is expected to come to light in the coming days.
