Mavelikara: Mr. Manoj Abraham IPS said we have seen a tremendous increase in the internet cybercrimes and there have been a lot of cyber-attacks basically on banks, crimes on social media, and generally the internet crimes are increasing to a great extent. The new trend that has recently cropped up is the shopping scams that have surfaced recently. We have got a lot of complaints stating advertisements for cheap electronic goods supposedly sold through Flipchart, Amazon, Mintra, the reputed shopping Apps would be sent through social media and will be found to give a great discount and people will click on the link and purchase the items immediately because the stocks may run out so you are almost redirected to a fishing site almost looking alike to the original sight and people tend to believe and click and immediately transfer the money but which actually goes to the fraudster.
So we have received a lot of complaints throughout the state and the scam is very prevalent and widely spreading and that is the reason why we have given this advisory that you should be very careful while looking at the advertisements on the social media because this will lead you to lose your money, will lead you to a false site which will ensure you that you will lose your money. What you should exactly do is whenever you go into the shopping App you should actually verify the address whether it is the right one because the fraudster’s fishing site will be different by one or two alphabets for instance Flippy cart for Flip Cart or something of that sought which will be different from the original site so whenever you are using the internet shopping site you should actually verify the address and see it is the correct one and it is always better to go and search in the Google or type the address and go into the site rather than clicking on the link and going. So basically the public should be aware of this and not fall a victim of cybercrime.
