Thoothukudi: After receiving information that both of them, Marichelvam (23) and his wife Karthika (21), were murdered on November 2, 2023, at 6:30 pm in Vasantakumar’s house in Murugesan Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Chipgat Police Station, Thoothukudi, the police registered a case and initiated an investigation. Marichelvam (23) is currently a subject of interest in this preliminary investigation. It has come to light that Karthika (21), daughter of Muthuramalingam, from the same community, had been in a relationship with Marichelvam for the past three years. When the Marichelvam family learned about their relationship, Karthika’s father initially opposed her request for marriage.
It has been revealed that Karthika, without informing her family, went to Kovilpatti with Marichelvam’s family and got married in a temple there. This act led to a sudden outburst of anger from the girl’s family, who believed she had eloped and brought disgrace upon them. Subsequently, after their marriage, the couple visited the girl’s maternal uncle’s house in VK Nagar, near her residence, on November 1, 2023, and everything was peaceful.
Under the guidance of Tuticorin Rural Utkota Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr. Suresh, the investigation is being carried out by Inspector Shanmugam of Sipkot Police Station, along with Assistant Inspectors Mr. Shanmugam, Mr. Rajaprabhu, and Special Assistant Inspector Mr. Yacobu. They have directed the formation of four separate police teams for this purpose. As a result, Karthika’s father, Muthuramalingam (47) from V.K Nagar, Ishakkiraja (23), the son of Isakimuthu from Thoothukudi KVK, and Rajapandi (27) from Tuticorin Shankar Colony, along with a juvenile, were promptly apprehended. The police are now conducting a thorough investigation into this case.
