Sanjay Gunjyal, Inspector General (IG), Garhwal, has instructed district police heads to install CCTV cameras at entry and exit points of the seven districts in the Garhwal division of the state. He was chairing a crime meeting at the Range Office here today. Gunjyal said a control room of women’s helpline number 181 would be set up in Dehradun. The IG told police officers that CCTV cameras should be installed at sensitive places in Dehradun and Haridwar districts to check crime. He questioned SSPs of Dehradun and Haridwar districts over the increasing crime rate. He told them to draft a blue print to check street crime, loot, vehicle thefts and burglary cases in the districts. Gunjyal instructed them to draft a dossier of hardcore criminals jailed in the past 10 years. “The city and traffic police should take effective steps to check increasing road accidents in districts,” he said. Also, the residents should be sensitised about the importance of following traffic rules and regulations by distributing pamphlets and conducting street plays. The driving licences of those found guilty of more than two road accidents should be cancelled. Also, a verification drive should be started in order to arrest suspected individuals in various districts of the Garhwal division, Gunjyal stated. He instructed the police heads to felicitate personnel who performed outstanding service. He instructed them to deploy additional police force in disaster-prone areas along the Char Dham Yatra route in the state. Funds would be released soon for renovating police barracks, police posts, police stations etc in the districts, the IG added.
