Hyderabad: In a joint operation based on credible information, the HNEW and Film Nagar Police apprehended a Nigerian drug dealer and confiscated 16 grams of cocaine, a Hyundai i20 car with the registration number TS 07 JG 7222, two cell phones, and cash amounting to Rs. 20,000/-, totaling Rs. 6,70,000/- in value.
The peddler was identified as Okaro Cosmos Ramsey, also known as Andy son of Okaro aged 38 years, residing in Hyderabad and native of Nigeria. Okaro Cosmos Ramsey has two NDPS Act cases registered against him at the Golconda Police Station, Hyderabad.
In 2014, Okaro Cosmos Ramsey, also known as Andy, came to New Delhi on a business visa and later settled in Hyderabad for business purposes. Initially, he visited Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, for the cloth export business to Nigeria. In 2016, he was arrested by Golconda Police Station along with Abraham Jacob Ukoha, a Nigerian national, for possession of cocaine. After being released on bail, he procured cocaine from another Nigerian, Obasi, residing in Bangalore, and began drug peddling in Hyderabad. In 2018, he was again arrested by the Golconda Excise Police for drug peddling.
Present Case: Okaro Cosmos Ramsey, also known as Andy, was procuring cocaine from his friend Obasi, a Nigerian national who supplied the drugs in Hyderabad in exchange for cash. Ramsey then resold the drugs to pre-identified consumers, using virtual numbers and encrypted apps like Telegram to maintain anonymity and avoid police surveillance. On credible information that Ramsey was involved in drug peddling in the city, the HNEW team apprehended him and seized the cocaine.
The above arrests were made under the supervision of Ms. S. Rashmi Perumal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, H-NEW, with the assistance of K. Srinivas, Inspector; G.S. Daniel, Inspector of Police, H-NEW; C. Venkata Ramulu, SI of Police and the HNEW staff; along with M. Srinivasulu, SHO, and the staff of Film Nagar Police Station, Hyderabad.
