Kerala, Wayanad: In a decisive action against the illegal sale of tobacco products, the police seized nine bags of tobacco, including items intended for sale to students. The operation, led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Pawanan, resulted in the arrest of K.M. Hamsa (55) at his residence in Pilakavu, Jessi, Puthanpura, Mananthavady.
During the raid, authorities confiscated a significant quantity of tobacco products, including brands such as Hans and Cool, which were reportedly being supplied to students and the general public. The search operation took place on the afternoon of March 19, 2025, following intelligence reports about the suspect’s involvement in the illegal trade.
K.M. Hamsa, a habitual offender, has multiple cases registered against him for illegally dealing in tobacco products, particularly targeting students. He has been under police surveillance for his repeated offenses related to the sale and distribution of banned substances.
The police team that carried out the operation included SIs A.R. Ramlal, S.S. Kiran, B. Sreelakshmi, A.SI Saji, S.C.P.O Sushant, and C.P.Os Manu Augustine and Prajeesh. Their coordinated efforts ensured the successful seizure and arrest, marking a significant step in curbing the illegal tobacco trade in the region.
