Gariaband, Chhattisgarh: In a significant breakthrough against Left Wing Extremism, nine active hardcore Maoists belonging to the Sinapali Area Committee and the SDK Area Committee surrendered before the Gariaband Police. The surrender took place under the Government of Chhattisgarh’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy aimed at encouraging misguided cadres to return to the mainstream.
The surrendered Maoists collectively carried a cash reward of ₹45 lakh, reflecting their prolonged involvement in violent activities and influence within the organization. Police officials described the development as a major strategic blow to Maoist presence and operational structure in the region.
Police authorities stated that sustained pressure through intensified operations, public outreach initiatives, and confidence-building measures helped motivate the cadres to abandon violence and choose peaceful democratic life. As part of the rehabilitation process, the surrendered individuals will be extended benefits as per the government norms to support their reintegration into society.
Security officials reaffirmed that efforts to bring remaining cadres into the mainstream will continue, with the twin objectives of restoring peace and ensuring long-term development in affected districts.
