Hyderabad City, Telangana: In a proactive step to enhance public safety and ensure strict compliance with excise laws, the North Zone Police conducted a coordination and sensitization meeting with all wine shop owners and license holders operating within the North Zone limits. The meeting was led by Smt. S. Rashmi Perumal, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, and focused on reinforcing the responsibilities of license holders in maintaining law and order.
During the interaction, wine shop owners were clearly briefed on their legal obligations and social responsibilities. They were instructed to strictly adhere to permitted liquor sale timings, ensure zero tolerance towards sale or consumption of alcohol by minors, and prevent overcrowding within and around their premises. The police also cautioned against overcharging, illegal sales, and unauthorized extension of business hours.
To strengthen surveillance and safety, license holders were directed to install and maintain properly functioning CCTV cameras covering entry and exit points, billing counters, and common areas, with adequate data backup. Adequate lighting in and around the premises, including parking areas, was also made mandatory. Owners were instructed not to permit consumption of liquor outside licensed areas and to immediately inform the police or excise officials about any untoward incident, medical emergency, or law and order issue.
The DCP sensitized the license holders about a recent serious incident within Marredpally Police Station limits, where a quarrel in a permit room led to a fatality, and urged them to treat it as a stern warning to exercise heightened caution and responsibility. It was made clear that in the event of any quarrels, assaults, or emergencies, immediate intimation to the police is mandatory, and cases will be registered against offenders without delay.
Emphasizing preventive measures, wine shop owners were instructed to deploy trained, alert, and sober security personnel capable of effective crowd management, especially during peak hours. Proper parking arrangements were also stressed to avoid traffic congestion and inconvenience to the public.
The North Zone Police cautioned that any violation of excise rules or police instructions would invite stringent legal action. The initiative reflects the police department’s commitment to preventive policing and community partnership. The public was also requested to cooperate with enforcement agencies and adhere to the law to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
