The Odisha Police, abbreviated as either OP or OPS, is the law enforcement agency for the state of Odisha in India. It is headquartered in Cuttack, the former capital of Odisha. The Odisha Police is headed by a Director General of Police, currently Mr.Bijaya Kumar Sharma, IPS and falls under the purview of the state’s Home Department of the Government of Odisha. The sanctioned personnel strength of Odisha Police is 72,145; comprising women as one-third of its total sanctioned strength in the directly recruited posts of Civil Constable, Sub-Inspector, and Deputy Superintendent of Police. This feat makes it one of the foremost in that aspect among the police services of India.
The Odisha Police have been rigorously working towards ensuring the Lockdown and during the period from the morning of 27.4.2020 to the morning of 28.4.2020, 49 cases have been registered by the Odisha Police for the violation of guidelines of COVID-19. Out of these 44 cases were for the violation of Lockdown, 1 case for rumor-mongering, and 4 cases were registered for other related issues. This is being done to prevent people from violating COVID-19 regulations.
