arai PS, based on which a case in J8 PS. Cr.No. 1710/2016 u/s 4 of Women Harassment Act was registered and the driver Venkatesan and his two friends Muthupandi and Sakthi were arrested.
The Greater Chennai Police is in discussion with the management of all call taxi operators on the following.
i. To work out a system to ensure that the antecedents of the drivers are properly checked before employment.
ii. A proper monitoring of the activities of the driver is done to ensure that unauthorized persons are not allowed to travel in the cabs.
iii. To work out modalities to ensure safety of women passengers booking cabs on share basis especially during the night.
The proactive steps have been initiated by the Greater Chennai Police to ensure safe travel of citizens / especially women while travelling in hired cabs.
