BENGALURU: A 38-year-old private firm employee lost Rs 10,000 in a 10-minute chat with a woman in an online live sex chat room.

The accused, identified as Kajal, lured the victim and stripped her while chatting. She got all the victim’s contact details before cutting the phone call.

After some time, she called him again and demanded money, threatening to upload the video on Facebook and other social media if he did not pay. The accused was blackmailed for about 12 hours and made to send money to the account given by her. When the demand for money increased again, he approached the Bellandur police of Whitefield division and lodged a complaint against her.

The victim resides in a PG accommodation in Bellandur. The person who started chatting at 11 pm on Wednesday fell prey to the lure of the accused. Then the accused blackmailed him till 11 am the next day. The accused gave her WhatsApp number to the victim and asked her to come for a WhatsApp video call. Here again, during the conversation, she was undressed and recording without anyone knowing. She reportedly sent the video recordings to his WhatsApp to scare him further.

The person reportedly made two UPI transactions to another mobile number she had given. 2000 in the first, 8000 in the second. When the accused demanded another Rs 80,000, the victim refused to pay and approached the Police

Both the mobile numbers of the accused have been obtained. In such cases, the accused have obtained the SIM card illegally and it becomes difficult to trace it. Be careful while chatting with a stranger. The victim lodged a complaint on Thursday, an official said.

A case has been registered against the unidentified woman under sections of extortion (IPC Section 384) and Information Technology Act, 2000. “The modus operandi of the accused is to target victims who are subscribers of such websites or apps. Nude pictures are posted on the app to attract victims. Later, they took him into confidence and recovered the money,’ said by the official.
