Ernakulam Rural: During the inspection conducted as part of the Operation Clean Perumbavoor project, a non-government employee was arrested with 81 bottles of heroin. Athabur Rahman (28), a native of Duppaguri Pathar, Nagaon, Assam, was arrested by the special investigation team led by Perumbavoor ASP and the Kurupampadi police. The investigation was based on a tip-off received by District Police Chief Mr. Vaibhav Saxena IPS. The highly dangerous heroin was found from the room where he was staying on rent on the grassy road. The police approached him as if they were needy people. He quoted one thousand rupees per bottle. The accused said that it was a strong product and that it was brought from Assam. When he realized that it was the police, the accused attacked and tried to escape. He used to sell to guest, workers and locals. There is also trade through middlemen. Those who used it and the middlemen are under police surveillance. He used to trade drugs under the guise of being a hotel worker. As part of Operation Clean Perumbavoor, more than 300 bottles of heroin, illicit tobacco products worth lakhs, ganja and MDMA were seized.
