Chennai: The flight arrived at Chennai Meenambakkam International Airport from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Customs officials received a tip-off that a contraband was on board. After that, the customs department officers secretly monitored the passengers who arrived on that flight. At that time, Vivek (29) from Dindigul, who had returned to Chennai on that flight after a trip to Thailand, was stopped and questioned on suspicion.
His possessions were searched after he contradicted himself to the authorities. When they ‘scanned’ the plastic basket with him, they were shocked to find wild animals in it. The wildlife officers were immediately called and investigated. It contained 5 ball mountain snake cubs. The Customs Department officers, who seized the smuggled wild animals without medical examination sent them back on a flight to Thailand.
The Customs Department officials who arrested Vivek in this regard are investigating why he was smuggling baby pythons.
