Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, October 17, 2025: In a decisive crackdown on illegal gambling, Pithoragarh Police scored a major success in what they called a “Gamblers Premier League” operation. Acting on the directives of Superintendent of Police Mrs. Rekha Yadav and under the close supervision of Circle Officers Mr. Govind Ballabh Joshi and Mr. K.S. Rawat, police teams have been conducting continuous checks and raids across the district to curb gambling and betting activities.
During one such operation on the night of October 17, the Kotwali Didihat Police, led by Inspector-in-Charge Mr. Sanjay Joshi, raided the Ghorpatta area and caught four individuals red-handed while gambling. The team recovered ₹41,900 from the gambling spot and an additional ₹28,600 from the accused, bringing the total recovery to ₹70,500 in cash.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
Digar Singh Kanyal (42), son of late Diwan Singh, resident of Ghorpatta, Didihat
Shankar Singh Bora (40), son of Dhyan Singh, resident of Bhanda, Didihat
Chandra Singh (52), son of Khim Singh Kanyal, resident of Bhanda, Didihat
Balwant Singh Kanyal (39), son of late Narayan Singh, resident of Bhanda, Didihat
A case has been registered under Section 13 of the Public Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway.
The Police Team involved in the operation is Sub-Inspector Pradeep Mishra, Head Constable Jagdish Prasad, Chief Constable Dinesh Joshi, and Hos.G. Kundan Ram.
