Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: At the Tirunelveli City Police Commissioner’s office, under the leadership of Tirunelveli City Police Commissioner Dr. N. Manivannan, I.P.S., police officers, office staff, and police personnel gathered together and observed a two-minute silence and took a pledge to eradicate untouchability. The pledge stated:
“I, an Indian citizen, having unwavering and heartfelt allegiance to the Constitution of India, know that untouchability has been abolished according to our Constitution.
I hereby sincerely pledge that I will not practice social discrimination against anyone, knowingly or unknowingly, based on untouchability, in thought, word, or deed. I also understand that it is my duty to work honestly and truthfully in creating a free society without religious discrimination, in accordance with the fundamental principles of the Constitution. I sincerely pledge that this will forever serve as an example of my complete allegiance to the Constitution of India.”
