Bengaluru : Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said on Monday that year-on-year cases registered under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) Act and cases of missing children in the state have increased significantly since 2018.
MLC Govindaraju, who was questioned in the Legislative Council about the increasing number of POCSO cases in the state every year, expressed his concern. He said that 3097 POCSO cases have been registered in 2022, 2863 POCSO cases in 2021 and 2,166 cases in 2020.
Responding to this, Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said that 2,063 POCSO cases were registered in the state in 2018 and this number will increase to 3,097 by 2022. In the month of January 2023, 207 cases were registered. While 770 cases of missing children were registered in 2018, this number will increase to 2,185 by 2022. He informed that 249 cases have been registered in the month of January 2023
There has been an increase in the number of cases reported earlier. Already women police stations have been established in all districts and help centers for women constables have been opened in police stations. He said that women and children helplines are also handling cases against women and children.
The government has taken several measures to prevent crimes against women and children and CCTVs are being installed in public places. 7,500 CCTVs are being installed at 3,200 locations in Bengaluru at a cost of Rs 500 crore under Nirbhaya Nidhi. The charge sheet will be submitted within 60 days of the filing of the case. He said that the government has given special priority to the safety of women and children.
