Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: In a strong step toward ensuring community safety and upholding justice for victims of heinous crimes, the Tirunelveli District Police have detained a POCSO Act convict under the Goondas Act.
Anand Selvam (30), son of Pandaram and a resident of Vikramasingapuram Main Road, had previously been arrested for offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Recognizing the serious nature of his actions and the threat he posed to public safety, Vanitha, Inspector of the All Women Police Station in Ambasamudram, recommended preventive detention under the Goondas Act.
Acting swiftly on this recommendation, District Superintendent of Police Mr. N. Silambarasan, IPS, forwarded the case for further action. Following this, Tirunelveli District Collector Dr. Sukumar issued orders for Anand Selvam’s detention under the Goondas Preventive Detention Act.
He has since been lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison.
This decisive action underscores the commitment of Tirunelveli Police to protect vulnerable sections of society, particularly women and children, and to ensure that repeat offenders are kept off the streets. The police continue to prioritize community safety through strict enforcement and proactive legal measures.
