Vijayawada: In the Vijayawada POCSO Court, Special Judge Dr. S. Rajini presided over a case involving a plaintiff residing in Payakapuram Sundarayya Nagar. The plaintiff, a mother of two boys and a 10-year-old girl studying in the fifth standard, reported an incident involving a 50-year-old man named Ramu. According to the plaintiff, on two occasions, Ramu behaved indecently with her daughter while she was returning home from school.
The first incident occurred when the girl was walking home, and Ramu approached her, promising money and engaging in inappropriate behavior. The frightened girl informed her family about the incident. Subsequently, on 18.11.2022, while the girl was again on her way home from school, Ramu lured her into his house and behaved indecently with her. The plaintiff reported these incidents to the Disha Police Station, leading to the registration of Cr.no.241/2022 under sections 354 (A) IPC and Section 10 of POCSO.
Disha Mahila Sun Inspector Mrs. Revathi conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused, Kumalleti Ramu, on 20.11.2022. A charge sheet was filed, and based on the orders of State DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy I.P.S., emphasizing timely resolution, monitoring, and conviction in such cases, the accused was sentenced by Vijayawada POCSO Court Judge Dr. S. Rajini.
The judgment imposed a 5-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.25,000 on Kumalleti Ramu. Additionally, the victim girl was entitled to receive Rs.20,000 from the fine as compensation. The District Legal Cell Service Authority was directed to ensure the payment of Rs.50,000 as compensation. Special Public Prosecutors G. Nagi Reddy and C.Y.M.S supervised the interrogation of the accused, with Inspector Disha Women Sub-Inspector Revathi and C.Y.M.S staff playing crucial roles in the prosecution of the case.
