<![CDATA[The Police and the Army join hands in conducting an encounter where a militant belonging to the Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) was killed in Anantnag's Kokernag area on Friday. A spokesman from the Police Department said the militant was killed at Vailoo area of Kokernag and a huge quantity of ammunition and incriminating material has been seized from the site of encounter. The police said the slain militant was involved in several attacks on security forces and civilians in the area. The gunfight in the area started soon after the joint search party of the Army and the police surrounded the Vailoo area. The hiding militant opened fire upon the search party, the police said. Initially the reports received suggested that at least three militants were trapped at the encounter site. The police said that the firing has stopped for a while and the operation is still in process. The area where the encounter took place also witnessed clashes between security forces and locals during the operation. One civilian who was identified as Yawar Ahmad Chopan, was hit in the head by a bullet. The condition of the injured civilian is stable according to the hospital sources. The internet service in the affected area have been suspended by the concerned authorities. ]]>
