New Delhi: A 26-year-old woman has been arrested for stealing a bag from an X-ray machine set up at the Delhi Metro station. The accused is a teacher in a private institute.
Delhi Police DCP (Metro) Mr. Jitendra Mani said on January 11, a woman complained that her bag was kept in an X-ray machine at Uttam Nagar metro station for examination but the bag was stolen from there. CCTV footage showed a woman stealing a bag.
Similar incidents took place on January 24 at Ritala metro station, on January 29 at Uttamnagar East metro station, and on January 30 at Uttamnagar west metro station. In all the thefts a woman was seen stealing and carrying a bag.
Delhi Police DCP (Metro) Mr. Jitendra Mani said that a woman was seen stealing in the CCTV footage.
The inquest found that the thief was a woman. Police spent 20 days examining CCTV footage of all metro stations to catch the woman. A few days later it was revealed that the same woman came to Uttam Nagar metro station to commit the crime and then left using the metro card. Following this, information was gathered about the woman’s way of arresting her from Metro Card Punching.
The trap was then set to catch the accused. When the woman reached Uttam Nagar metro station on Friday, the police there checked her face which was seen on CCTV. Although the dressing sense of the accused woman is very high it is difficult to suspect her, but identified the police,
Police arrested the accused on suspicion. At trial, the accused pleaded guilty. According to DCP orders, 2 gold jewelry, 5 Metro cards, 5 debit cards, and Rs.9, 000 were seized from the accused.
The accused was identified as Garima Pandey, a resident of Uttam Nagar. She is a graduate of Microbiology. The accused is working as a teacher in a para-medical institute.
