Kochi: The Piravom police arrested a man who was involved in an illegal activity on Saturday. He cheated job seekers by giving them fake job offers in Australia. The accused was identified as Saravanan, 42, of Madurai in Tamil Nadu. The police nabbed the accused from Madurai on Friday night and brought him to Piravom where his arrest was recorded. He had been in the wanted list for the police ever since his agent Robert was arrested almost six months ago. Mr. V.D. Regiraj, Piravom sub inspector said, on the pretext of offering the jobseekers, job the accused used to collect Rs.75, 000/- from each candidate. He used to pay for his agent, Robert a commission of Rs.10, 000/- for each candidate he brings in. He said that the police are on the lookout for another Delhi based agent named Neeraj who also used to work for him. Investigation is in process to ascertain whether he had deployed more agents. In connection with money cheating issue, six persons have registered a complaint with the Piravom police while the total number of persons that have been cheated has been found to be 22. The accused, Saravanan did not have an office in the State but operated mostly from Madurai through his agents. Cases have been filed against the accused by the police invoking Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 406(criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused was produced before a court and remanded. ]]>
