<![CDATA[The Police arrested a man for deliberately causing damage to the statue of the Dravidian leader Mr.E.V. Ramasamy (Periyar). This incident came to light when the Dravidar Kazhagam functionaries reached the location on Monday morning to pay respect to their leader on his birth anniversary. They noticed slight damages and a pair of footwear lying on the statue. The functionaries made a complaint to the Dharapuram police. Based on their complaint the Dharapuram police registered a case and arrested K. Naveen Kumar on Tuesday. On investigation the police took the visuals from a CCTV camera showed Kumar entering the Island Ground Park around 3 a.m., and it helped the police to zero in on the suspect. The police said that K. Naveen Kumar a native of Thalavaipattinam, has confessed that had gone to the Island Ground Park, where the bronze statue is situated, in the early hours of Monday and spat on it and hit it with a stone. Before leaving the spot, he left a pair of footwear on the statue. He did this because he disliked Periyar. Kumar was produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court, Dharapuram, and remanded in judicial custody.]]>
