<![CDATA[A 30-year-old man was arrested for throwing acid at his wife and her tenant in the small hours of Sunday, the police said on Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mr. M.S. Randhawa confirmed the incident and the arrest of the accused, Ritesh. He is a drunkard and often fought with his wife over domestic issues including doubting her fidelity, the police said. A senior police officer investigating the case said that the 25-year-old victim was living at her parents’ house in Paharganj’s Multani Dhanda for the last two months after the couple had a fight over a few domestic issues. The police officer said that he came to her house around 2.30 a.m. when she was sleeping. He had asked her to come out. A 40-year-old woman, her family’s tenant, was sleeping next to her at that time. His wife refused to come out and had asked him to leave. However, the accused splashed the acid in her direction through a small opening in the door and fled the spot. Following this, the woman’s brother made the PCR call. The two victims were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, the police said. The police officer said the liquid had spread on their bodies. The women have suffered around 40% burns on their hands and legs but are said to be stable. The wife’s statement was recorded and based on her complaint, a case under section 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered following which Ritesh was arrested. The couple had a love marriage about five years ago, the police said. Ritesh had several criminal cases were registered against him and has also served jail term, they added. He suspected his wife of being close to another man while he was in jail , the police said. The couple used to fight over this including other issues, they added.]]>
