<![CDATA[The Delhi Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested the alleged kingpin of a gang which was active in five States. A Crime Branch team arrested 47-year-old Kanahiyan alias Guruji while he was coming to Delhi from Kolkata in Howrah Rajdhani Express. The DCP (Cyber and FICN) Mr. Bhisham Singh told that the police have busted the thak-thak gang with Kanahiyan’s arrest. They have seized Rs.8 lakh, a pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. Kanahiyan allegedly told the police during interrogation that his gang members and he belong to Madurai in Tamil Nadu but he lives in Inderpuri. He also confessed to training members of his gang and sending them to Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Rajasthan and West Bengal. The gang, which includes women, usually targeted moving cars. They would distract drivers by knocking on the window, puncturing tyres or pouring oil under car’s hood at red lights. At times, they even staged minor accidents. Mr. Singh told that as the rest of the gang members distracted drivers, one of them would steal bags from cars. The female members would often come in front of moving cars to make it look like an accident. The Inter-Border Gangs Investigation Squad of Crime Branch, Dwarka, received a confidential piece of information about Kanahiyan’s train journey, Mr. Singh told that a trap was laid at the New Delhi railway station and he was arrested. Kanahiyan told the police that he started stealing bags from cars at a very young age. Mr. Singh told that he was infamous in his area as an expert thief. The accused allegedly established a gang after several youths in his area wanted to become his disciples. To avoid detection, he deployed a six-member team in each city and often swapped them every month, the police told. After receiving information on the status of thefts by his members, he would take a flight, collect the money and fly back to Delhi. As a result, the police would fail to recover stolen goods despite making an arrest. Mr. Singh added “In case a member got arrested,he would arrange legal aid and also took care of their families. We are trying to track and identify the other gang members" .]]>
